Punkeshi curates distinctive Kokeshi from Japan – hand-crafted wooden figures spanning the full spectrum of Japanese Kokeshi: from traditional forms to contemporary design. Each bearing the unmistakable signature of its artist.

Today's lineup: Takatoshi Hayashi and Noboru Wagatsuma with highly original Kokeshi that bring any collection to life.

Seiko Sato, Hideyuki Sato and Yusuke Sato with Kokeshi in the classic Yajiro style. Gabriela Cichowska with powerful Kokeshi portraits. And Rie Yoshida with hand-sewn teddy bears made from Japanese Kinran brocade (金襴). Rounding out the selection: Kokeshi-inspired art, Kokeshi lamps, Kendama, and further artist objects with soul.

Adam Jaromir - Founder of Punkeshi

With PUNKESHI, Adam aims to bring the art of Kokeshi craft to an international audience. As a collector, he has long been drawn to the variety, expressiveness and cultural depth of these Japanese wooden figures.

In collaboration with artist Noboru Wagatsuma, he realised his first own design, NINA. Further designs are in preparation.

Adam Jaromir is a publisher, translator and author, born in Poland and based in Hannover. His picture books have been published in Germany, Poland, France and South Korea; he is the recipient of the Gustav Heinemann Peace Prize and a two-time nominee for the German Youth Literature Award.
