This exquisite Tama-ire Kokeshi, crafted from high-quality camellia wood, impresses with its original form, meticulously executed details, and a multi-layered, colourful painting that unites traditional symbolism with modern aesthetics.

A Tama-ire Kokeshi is a playful and rare variation of the traditional Japanese Kokeshi doll. The term "Tama-ire" (玉入れ) literally means "ball insertion" or "ball toss". This particular Kokeshi is designed with an opening at the top of the head, allowing space for a baby Kokeshi to be placed inside—much like in a basket (ejiko). This type of Kokeshi symbolises care, protection, and security, and is regarded as an expression of maternal love.
