This one-of-a-kind beautiful Tama-ire Kokeshi, crafted from high-quality camellia wood, captivates with its exceptional form, intricately detailed craftsmanship, and striking, symbolically rich depiction of a Daruma. The untreated bark highlights the inherent character of the camellia wood used. This approach not only adds an aesthetic texture and striking colour contrast, but can also carry symbolic meaning – reflecting a deep connection to nature and the beauty of imperfection, in the spirit of wabi-sabi.

A Tama-ire Kokeshi is a playful and rare variation of the traditional Japanese Kokeshi dolls. The term "Tama-ire" (玉入れ) literally means "ball insertion" or "ball toss". This type of Kokeshi is designed with an opening in its head, allowing a baby Kokeshi to be placed inside – similar to being in a basket (ejiko).

The Daruma is a popular symbol in Japanese folk belief, representing perseverance, determination, and the ability to overcome setbacks. When the Daruma is featured as a motif on a Tama-ire Kokeshi, its powerful symbolism merges with the protective and maternal meaning of the Tama-ire form. This combination can be interpreted as a wish for strength, good fortune, and a sheltered development – particularly for children. The Daruma-Ejiko Kokeshi is therefore not only a handcrafted artistic object, but also a powerful symbol of hope, resilience, and caring guidance throughout life’s journey.
