Wagatsuma-san's Tsubaki No. 1 is a Togatta with an unusually densely painted body. Geometric and floral bands in red and black cover the slender trunk from top to bottom. The large round head stands in calm contrast to the narrow form of the body – and wears a blindfold made from natural bark – an element that breaks with the classic Togatta form.
