An Ejiko carries an Ejiko.

Wagatsuma-san's Tsubaki No. 6 is a play on form that quotes itself. An Ejiko – the classic basket-child form – carries a second, smaller Ejiko as a hat. The volume doubles, the motif repeats, the logic turns in a circle – and precisely there lies the wit of this extraordinary piece.

Brush drawing in purple and blue covers both forms. The natural bark separates the painted surfaces and sets the rhythm.
