Wagatsuma-san's Tsubaki No. 14 is a Tama-ire on light, almost cream-coloured camellia wood. Floral motifs in white and black – restrained, precise. The cup-shaped top carries abstract brush forms; the body, fine leaf motifs.

The palette is reduced to a minimum. What remains is the quality of the line. So light, so quiet as a whole – and yet impossible to overlook.
