The Kitakami Nakayoshi Kokeshi Set does not show who the two figures are – it only shows how they relate to one another. Close together, slightly offset, leaning into each other. What holds them together is the wood itself: the same warmth, the same texture, yet never exactly the same grain. Each set is one of a kind – not by the artist’s decision, but through the material itself.
Designed by furniture designer Makoto Koizumi and crafted by Wagatsuma-san. Created in collaboration with Andai – an interiors store with a curatorial approach that we share.
