Miniature Tama-ire Ejiko | 4 cm
This enchanting 4 cm Ejiko-Kokeshi in the Togatta style is a masterpiece of traditional Japanese craftsmanship by Noboru Wagatsuma, embodying centuries-old traditions in miniature perfection.
Ejiko Kokeshi are a distinctive form of traditional Japanese Kokeshi dolls, characterised by their compact, rounded shape and the depiction of infants or young children nestled in carriers known as ejiko. Originating from the Tōhoku region in northern Japan, they take their name from the wooden baskets traditionally used to cradle babies. This style of Kokeshi symbolises care, protection, and a sense of nurturing, often seen as an expression of maternal love. Ejiko Kokeshi are especially valued for their gentle facial expressions, finely crafted details, and deep cultural significance.
