The smallest Kokeshi doll in Takatoshi Hayashi’s Ishinomaki series captivates with its delicate appearance and playful fish motif in vibrant red and blue. Eyes, mouth and hairlines are traditionally hand-painted with black ink. The vivid colours are achieved using food-safe dyes – a natural colouring method historically used in Kokeshi-making. The doll is finished with a layer of Roubiki, a natural wax that adds a soft sheen but makes the surface sensitive to heat.
